Growing Gardens

Our Butterfly Garden

Our Butterfly Garden

Over the Summer and into the Fall, our garden will be growing more abundant with green leaves growing and flowers blooming. Thank you to the parents and teachers who have volunteered their time over the summer months to water our garden and keep the plants growing. If you are playing at the school, take a walk and check out the gardens.

Farewell For Now

A sincere thank you to the wonderful students and parents for a fabulous year. This is a special group of children whom I have loved teaching. I hope everyone enjoys their summer vacation. And remember, I am just around the corner from the Grade 1’s so now we get to be neighbours!

Quiet Moment

IMG_6796

Before a game of California Kickball with Ms. Abgrall’s class, we took a moment to lie on the grass and listen to the sounds of nature. Many embraced this quiet moment, while a few found it difficult to be still. With summer around the corner, everyone will have a chance to relax, enjoying their quiet moments while on vacation.

Horsing Around

Nicholas On His Horse

Nicholas On His Horse

A horse at school! Our big buddy class had ‘Pet Day’, so Nicholas brought his pet horse. Students learned about his horse and how he cares for her. It was neat to see Nicholas riding his horse at different speeds around the school field. Afterwards, students helped groom the horse’s coat.

Sports Day

It was a fun-filled morning. After running races, students made their way to a variety of different events. They participated in an obstacle race, sack race, mini-soccer game, sidewalk chalk, frisbee toss, parachute games, skipping, playground obstacle and bean bag toss. What a great way to spend the morning – outside actively enjoying the sunshine.

Connecting With Nature

Jayden & Logan Observing Close Up

Jayden & Logan Observing Close Up

Since the end of May, we have been harvesting Painted Lady Butterflies. Students watched as the tiny caterpillars grew bigger and bigger each day until it was time to make their chrysalis. They stayed safe inside their chrysalis for about 8 days during their transformation. Our first few butterflies emerged from their chrysalis earlier this week. Students observed the butterflies feeding and flying. We released the butterflies into our butterfly garden that we planted at the beginning of May. It was rewarding to see the butterflies landing in our garden and using the habitat that was built for them. Students documented their observations in their butterfly booklets. To celebrate this day, Brianna brought in butterfly cupcakes for the class.
